Inspired in part by Japanese woodblock printer Hiroshige who produced a hundred prints commemorating different views of Tokyo (‘One Hundred Famous Views of Edo’), this series (a work in progress, and a likely ongoing series) is of Denmark places, beginning with the road to Denmark and specific places off the Bibbulmun track.
The Denmark series is both a celebration of place and an expression of concern for an environment experiencing visible climate change. Once one of the wettest parts of the state, Denmark now faces a drying climate to such an extent that a pipeline is being built to pump water from Albany. In early 2022, Denmark was in the grip of significant bushfires. There are twelve paintings in this series to date. Below is just a sample.
